Reading, Pa. (Feb. 7, 2026) - Albright College (12-9, 8-2) hit a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer to take Alvernia University (11-9, 5-5) to overtime, and the Lions went on to take the 85-75 win over Alvernia on Saturday in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball action at Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court.
Albright led by just four points at the half, but the Lions built their lead up to 11, 54-43, through the first seven minutes of the second half. Alvernia closed in and retook the lead on a 3-pointer from Cottrell with nine minutes to play.Â
Alvernia built its lead up to six, 69-63, with just under two minutes to play and led by five, 71-66 on a driving layup by Robert Cottrell with a minute to go. The Lions closed within two over the next 50 seconds before sending Rasheem Dearry to the line with six seconds to go. Dearry hit his first attempt to give Alvernia the three point advantage. Dearry then made his second attempt to give Alvernia the four point advantage, but an Alvernia player was called for a violation to take the point off the board. The Lions quickly drove down the court and fired a corner three from in front of their bench. The shot fell through the hoop as the horn sounded to send the game to overtime. The Lions carried the momentum of the game-tying three and shut Alvernia down in overtime, outscoring the Golden Wolves 13-3, to take the 85-75 win.
Alvernia was led by a 30 point performance by Robert Cottrell. He shot 12-for-24 and 4-for-8 from deep. The Lions made 15 3-pointers on the night and were led by a 32 point performance by Chase McWhite. McWhite accounted for six of Albright's 3-pointers.
With the loss, Alvernia drops to 5-5 in MAC Commonwealth standings. The Golden Wolves are tied at 5-5 in fourth place in the standing with Eastern.Â
Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday hosting the 10-0 Hood College Blazers.
