Golden Wolves Fall to Knights, 4-3

Reading, Pa. (March 11, 2026) - Neumann University (5-2) plated two runs in the top of the ninth inning en route to a 4-3 victory over Alvernia University (4-3) in a non-conference baseball matchup Wednesday afternoon in Angelica Park.

The Knights held a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning but the Golden Wolves chipped away and tallied runs in the bottom of the sixth and the eighth to tie the game at two. The Knights then scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a two run, 4-2 lead, heading to the bottom of the ninth. Alvernia grabbed one back in the bottom of the ninth and had runners on first and second but were unable to tie the game as the Knights held on for the 4-3 victory.

How it Happened
  • After three scoreless innings, the Knights struck first in the top of the fourth after an Alvernia error allowed a Neumann runner to score and put the Knights up 1-0.
  • Neumann added another run in the sixth inning after an RBI single off the bat of Tyler Kilmer, which pushed the Neumann lead to 2-0.
  • The Golden Wolves answered in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull within one. Timmy Hitchcock ripped a one-out triple and then came around to score on an RBI single off the bat of Bobby Hansen to make it a 2-1 ballgame.
  • Alvernia tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo run in the inning to tie the game at 2-2. Alex Bartlett Jr. worked a leadoff walk and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hitchcock. Hansen then legged out an infield single, but a throwing error by the Neumann second basemen allowed Bartlett Jr. to score and tied the game at two.
  • The Knights then grabbed the lead back in the top of the ninth after more Alvernia errors allowed Neumann to score two more runs and take a 4-2 advantage heading to the bottom of the ninth.
  • Hitchcock pulled one back for the Golden Wolves in the bottom of the ninth with a bases loaded sacrifice fly to right center to make it a 4-3 ballgame but it was not enough as the Knights secured a one run victory.
