Golden Wolves Drop MAC Commonwealth Opener to Albright, 12-8

Reading, Pa. (March 13, 2026) - Alvernia University (4-4, 0-1) dropped its MAC Commonwealth opener to Albright College (6-3-1, 1-0), 12-8, Friday afternoon in a baseball matchup at Albright's Kelchner Field.

The Lions scored eight of their 12 runs in their final four at bats en route to the victory. Alvernia and Albright combined for a total of 30 hits with Albright tallying 19 to Alvernia's 11.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves got on the board first in the top of the first inning thanks to a Timmy Hitchcock RBI double to left that scored Alex Bartlett Jr. but the Lions answered with an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to tie it at one.
  • Alveria grabbed the lead back in the next half inning when Quincy Esannason drove in Harold Ivery III with an RBI single to put the Golden Wolves back on top, 2-1.
  • After a scoreless third frame, the Lions swung the lead back in their favor thanks to a three run homer off the bat of Tyler Boccelli to make it a 4-2 Albright lead.
  • Alvernia tied the game back up in the top of the fifth inning after they responded with a Bobby Hansen two run shot to center field that made it a 4-4 ballgame.
  • The Lions continued the back and forth affair with a two run fifth inning after back to back RBI singles to take back the lead, 6-4, heading to the sixth inning.
  • Alvernia answered again with two runs in the top of the sixth inning after an Albright error allowed Will Woodring to score and a first and third double play allowed Jake Chapman to score to tie the game again, 6-6.
  • Albright bounced back with a solo shot off the bat of Christian Eckstein which made it 7-6, Albright but a Ivery III sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh pulled the game back level at seven apiece.
  • The Lions then closed the game out with two runs in the seventh and three runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a five run, 12-7 advantage heading to the ninth.
  • Alvernia's Hitchcock poked a solo homer into the left center gap in the top of the ninth inning but it was not enough as the Lions secured the 12-8 victory over the Golden Wolves.
