Golden Wolves Split Doubleheader With Lions

Reading, Pa. (March 14, 2026) - Alvernia University (5-5, 1-2) dropped game two of the MAC Commonwealth baseball series to Albright College (7-4-1, 2-1) but bounced back to win the rubber match and split the doubleheader Saturday afternoon down in Angelica Park.

The Lions came from behind and scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to take game one of the doubleheader by a score of 13-10. Alvernia then bounced back with a big time victory in game two on the shoulders of senior Matt Mays who tossed a seven inning complete game, allowed just three runs, one walk and struck out seven batters en route to a 5-3 victory.

  • The Lions pulled two runs back in the third inning after two RBI singles played runs but the Golden Wolves responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 5-2 Alvernia lead.
  • The Golden Wolves then poured on five runs in the fourth inning to give Alvernia an eight run, 10-2 advantage. Jack Zabarsky started things off with a bases-loaded walk to force in a run before Harold Ivery III recorded a sacrifice fly to right center that scored another run and made it a 7-2 ballgame.
  • Woodring added to the lead and made it an 8-2 ballgame after an RBI single to center field scored Hansen and Christopher Babkowski capped the five run inning with a two RBI double down the right field line to make it a 10-2 Alvernia lead.

  • The Lions then sent the game into extra innings with an RBI single to left center that scored a run and tied the game at ten heading to the eighth inning.
  • After a scoreless eighth inning, the Lions tacked on three runs in the top of the ninth inning and shutout the Golden Wolves in the home half of the inning to take game two of the series, 13-10.
