Golden Wolves Down Cardinals, 10-3

Reading, Pa. (March 19, 2026) - Alvernia University (6-5) scored nine runs in the final five innings en route to a 10-3 victory over Plattsburgh State University (9-2) Thursday evening in a non-conference baseball matchup down in Angelica Park.

The Cardinals held a 2-1 advantage heading to the bottom of the fourth inning but the Golden Wolves posted two runs in the fourth, two more in the fifth and tacked on five runs in the sixth inning to secure the victory. Tyler Weil-Kaspar earned the victory on the mound for the Golden Wolves and tossed 5.2 innings, scattered just six hits and allowed two runs. Weil-Kaspar also struck out five batters and issued just one walk.

The matchup between the Golden Wolves and the Cardinals came as the first meeting of the two teams.

How it Happened
  • Plattsburgh got on the board first in the top of the first inning after an RBI groundout to Bobby Hansen at shortstop plated the first run of the ballgame.
  • The Golden Wolves leveled the score in the bottom half of the second inning after Hansen drove a ball over the left field wall for a homer to tie it at one.
  • The Cardinals grabbed the lead back in the top of the fourth after yet another RBI groundout scored a run and gave the Cardinals a 2-1 advantage.
  • Alvernia answered again, this time right away in the bottom half of the fourth inning with two runs to take back the lead, 3-2. Christopher Babkowski got things going with two outs in the inning and hammered a home run to left field to tie the game at two.
  • Jake Chapman then laid down a bunt single and advanced to second on a pass ball during the next at bat. Chapman then scored thanks to a Tim DeGaetano RBI single through the left side to give the Golden Wolves the lead back, 3-2.
  • The Golden Wolves added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after a Bobby Hansen RBI single scored Max Hansen and Babkowski legged out a double play opportunity and drove in Timmy Hitchcock and made it a 5-2 ball game.
  • Alvernia then broke it wide open in the bottom of the sixth inning and posted five runs in the frame to take a 10-2 lead. Hitchcock put down a bunt single with runners on first and second and after a throwing error by the Plattsburgh third baseman, Joe Glass was able to score.
  • Bobby Hansen then added to the lead with a two run single up the middle to score Hitchcock and Max Hansen and pushed the Alvernia lead to six, 8-2. Babkowski would single to center and drive in another run for the Golden Wolves and Chapman grounded out to the first baseman but allowed Jack Zabarsky to score and made it an eight run Alvernia lead.
  • The Golden Wolves and the Cardinals would go scoreless over the next two innings before the Cardinals tacked on one run in the top of the ninth but that was all they would get as Alvernia's Zachary Schultz shut them down to secure the victory for the Golden Wolves.
