Golden Wolves Split Doubleheader With Pride

Reading, Pa. (March 21, 2026) - Alvernia University (7-7, 2-4) took game one of a MAC Commonwealth baseball doubleheader but Widener University (6-9, 3-3) grabbed game two to secure the 2-1 series victory Saturday afternoon down in Angelica Park.

The Golden Wolves took game one of the doubleheader by a score of 3-2 thanks to Bobby Hansen's three RBI but fell in game two of the day to the Pride, 3-1, to drop the MAC Commonwealth series.

Game 1: Alvernia: 3, Widener: 2

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning after a Max Hansen lead off double put him in scoring position. Alvernia's Bobby Hansen then laced an RBI single up the middle to drive in Max Hansen and put the Golden Wolves up 1-0.
  • The Pride responded in the top of the second with a solo homer over the center field wall to tie the game at one.
  • Widener took the lead in the top of the fourth inning after a two out RBI single by Ryan Madden scored Brandon Yoder to put the Pride up 2-1.
  • Alvernia responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a Bobby Hansen two out double into the right center gap. Max Hansen scored from second and Timmy Hitchcock turned on the afterburners and scored from first to put the Golden Wolves in the lead, 3-2.
  • The Golden Wolves then closed out the Pride in the final two innings of game one with Nick Ferraioli and Brad Coley shutting down the Widener bats and securing the 3-2 victory.

Game 2: Widener: 3, Alvernia: 1

How it Happened
  • After a scoreless first frame, the Golden Wolves jumped ahead after Harold Ivery III blasted a solo home run over the batting cages in right field and put the Golden Wolves up 1-0 after two innings.
  • The Pride threatened to score in the top of the third and had runners on first and second with two outs. Widener's JP DiGuiseppe slapped a groundball through the right side for a base hit but Alvernia second baseman Mike Pulcini made a sliding stop to prevent the ball from going into the outfield. Widener's Ryan Madden rounded third and thought that the ball had snuck through to the outfield and took off for home but did not make it as Pulcini fired a seed to Christopher Babkowski at the plate to cut down Madden and preserve Alvernia's one run lead.
  • The Golden Wolves and the Pride would go scoreless over the next two innings before the Pride grabbed the lead with three runs in the top of the sixth inning. After back to back groundouts, DiGuiseppe worked a walk and then Kevin Bukowski ripped an RBI triple to center field and tied the game at one.
  • Widener then took the lead in the next at bat when Brendan Raven hit a two run homer over the center field wall and gave the Pride a two run, 3-1 advantage.
  • Alvernia had no more than one base runner for the next three at bats before the bottom of the ninth inning. Timmy Hitchcock led off with a double into the right center gap and then stole third on a dirt ball read to advance to third but the Golden Wolves could not get any more runs across as Widener secured the game two victory and the series.
