Mustangs Down Golden Wolves, 8-5

Reading, Pa. (March 27, 2026) - Alvernia University (8-10, 2-5) dropped game one of a MAC Commonwealth baseball series to Stevenson University (7-8, 1-4), 8-5, Friday afternoon down in Angelica Park.

The Golden Wolves took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning but the Mustangs responded with four runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 5-3 lead. Alvernia bounced back and scored runs in the sixth and the seventh to tie the game at eight but the Mustangs scored two runs in the eighth and one run in the ninth to secure the 8-5 victory over the Golden Wolves.

How it Happened
  • After three scoreless innings the Mustangs took a 1-0 lead after an RBI single scored the first run of the ballgame but the Golden Wolves responded right away in the bottom half of the fourth inning when Timmy Hitchcock blasted a solo homer over the left field wall and into the Alvernia bullpen to tie the game at one after four innings.
  • The Golden Wolves then grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a Logan Nelson two RBI single through the left side scored Hitchcock and Jack Zabarsky to put the Golden Wolves up 3-1.
  • Stevenson pulled into the lead, 5-3, after Alvernia errors allowed four Stevenson runs to score and put the Mustangs up two.
  • Alvernia pulled one back in the bottom of the sixth inning after Mike Pulcini drove in Jake Chapman with an RBI double into the right center gap to pull the Golden Wolves within one, 5-4.
  • The Golden Wolves then tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning thanks to an RBI single through the left side off the bat of Harold Ivery III to tie the game at five.
  • Stevenson bounced back with two runs in the top of the eighth inning after an RBI single and an RBI double gave the Mustangs a two run, 7-5 lead.
  • The Mustangs then added one more run for insurance in the top of the ninth on an Alvernia error to secure the 8-5 victory over the Golden Wolves.
