Devlin Names Alvernia Football Staff

Reading, Pa. (March 27, 2026) - Alvernia Head Football Coach Steve Devlin announced on Friday the completion of his assistant coaching staff for Alvernia Football.

Devlin, who was named Alvernia's third head football coach back in December, has added 11 coaches to his staff ahead of the 2026 season.

"I am excited to announce our 2026 Football Staff," said Devlin. "They are men of great character, excellent recruiters, and outstanding teachers of the game. They will work tirelessly to provide our student-athletes with a great experience at Alvernia."

Devlin retained one member of Alvernia's 2025 staff in Jordan Waters, promoting Waters from tight ends coach to offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator. Devlin also has three Alvernia Football alumni on staff in Collin Edmonds Jr., Lou Sepe, and Joe Bertz. 

"I am looking forward to building our program around this staff," added Devlin. We are doing something special here at Alvernia. The future is bright and we are excited to get started."

Mike Tufaro - Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach

Mike Tufaro joins Alvernia's staff as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach following five seasons at FDU-Florham in New Jersey. Tufaro started in the spring of 2019 with the Devils. He started with FDU as the offensive line coach before being elevated to the offensive coordinator role in 2022.

"I am excited to bring Mike and his family to Reading," said Devlin. "Mike is one of the brightest offensive minds in the game. His coaching style and experience will make an immediate impact on our program as our offensive coordinator."

At FDU, Tufaro produced 21 All-MAC selections from 2022 through 2025. His 2024 offense ranked #1 in the MAC in scoring with 32.55 points per game, total offense with 409.5 yards per game, and passing offense with 239.8 yards per game. The 2024 offense also had the least amount of turnovers in the MAC. On the national scale, FDU ranked fifth in the nation in 2024 in time of possession and seventh in completion percentage (71.4%).

Tufaro coached two-time All-MAC Quarterback Ryon Thomas. In three years as the starter under Tufaro, Thomas finished his career with just under 7,000 yards of total offense. He finished his career with 44 passing touchdowns and 21 rushing touchdowns. Thomas now plays professionally in Germany. 

"Mike's offenses have been explosive over the years, and I am looking forward to developing a top ranked offense together with him," added Devlin. "He will help in developing a championship culture here at Alvernia."

Prior to his time at FDU Florham, Tufaro was the running backs coach and head JV coach at SUNY Morrisville from 2017-2019. He began his coaching career at his alma mater of Bluefield College in 2016.

Tufaro is a native of Scotch Plains, New Jersey. He earned his bachelor's in psychology from Bluefield College in 2015 and his Masters in Sport Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2021. 

Richie Roman - Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Line Coach

Richie Roman joins Alvernia's staff as the special teams coordinator and defensive line coach following stops at Norwich University and Muhlenberg College. Roman spent one season at both Norwich and Muhlenberg as each program's respective defensive line coach.

"We are excited to have Richie join our coaching staff," said Devlin. "He is an outstanding leader of mena nd will make a huge difference in our program."

In 2024 at Muhlenberg College, Roman helped lead the Mules to a total of 33 sacks - which ranked them 24th in Division III. That same team ended the year with 24 tackles for a loss and produced an all-conference lineman in Keshon Davila.  The Mules had four games in which they held teams to under 100 rushing yards, including two games where teams finished with under 20 rushing yards. 

The 2024 Mules won their MAC/Centennial Bowl game against Widener University's, and Derek Rosenow, a defensive end for Roman, was named the bowl MVP with a three sack performance. Roman's defensive line alongside Rosenow allowed just 13 rushing yards by the Pride. 

Roman got his collegiate coaching career started at Lycoming College in 2023 as the Warrior's defensive line coach. He coached two all conference selections. In 2023, Lycoming won the Cape Charles Bowl against Washington and Lee as part of an inaugural Chesapeake Challenge series with the ODAC and Landmark Conferences. 

"Richie has coached at some very competitive programs, and I look forward to him bringing that winning attitude to Alvernia," added Devlin. "I am excited about the plan for our special teams, and Richie will lead that unit along with our defensive line."

Roman is a 2021 graduate of Moravian College. He earned his bachelor's degree in economics and political science. 

Jordan Waters - Recruiting Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach

Jordan Waters returns to Alvernia's coaching staff in a new role for the 2026 season. Waters was promoted by Devlin from the tight ends coach to the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator. 

"Jordan's backgrounds at various positions makes him an ideal person to be in charge of our offensive line," said Devlin. "He will bring fresh ideas and teachings to our program that will help develop our players into the future."

Waters joined Alvernia's coaching staff in May of 2025 as the tight ends coach. Prior to joining Alvernia's staff, Waters spent three seasons with Widener University as a defensive line coach. In his final season with the Pride, Waters coached a defensive line that helped lead the Pride to 34 total sacks on the season. Waters coached Jalen Walker, a defensive end who earned All-American honors for the Pride.

Prior to joining Widener, Waters got his coaching career started at his high school alma mater, Queen Anne's County in Maryland. Waters spent a season with Queen Anne's where he coached an offensive line that led the way for Maryland's sixth leading rusher in 2021.

"I am excited to see the immediate impact that Jordan will have with our players," added Devlin. "He is a fantastic recruiter and is a huge addition to our staff."

Waters played collegiately for Bridgewater College in Virginia. Waters was an interior offensive lineman for the Eagles and helped lead Bridgewater to a 2019 ODAC Championship and a Division III playoff appearance. Waters earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from Bridgewater and his Masters in Organizational Development and Leadership from Widener.

Neil O'Donnell - Assistant Offensive Line Coach

Neil O'Donnell joins Alvernia's staff as the assistant offensive line coach. O'Donnell played for Devlin at Ursinus, where he was a three year starter at left guard for the Bears. O'Donnell was a captain for Ursinus in 2025. He earned College Sport Communicators Academic All-District honors three times and Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll honors three times. O'Donnell will graduate from Ursinus College in May.

Chris Lampart - Defensive Line Coach

Chirs Lampart joins Alvernia's staff as a defensive line coach. Lampart spent the last six seasons with Devlin at Ursinus College in the same role. During Lampart's time at Ursinus, the Bears won three Centennial-MAC Bowl Championship games and earned an at-large bid into the Division III NCAA Tournament in 2024, marking Ursinus' first NCAA appearance since 1999.

Prior to his time at Ursinus, Lampart spent one season as the head coach of Archbishop Ryan High School in the Philadelphia Catholic League. In his only season, Lampart led the Raiders to the Philadelphia Catholic League 5A Championship game. Prior to his time at Ryan, Lampart spent four seasons as an assistant coach with Archbishop Wood High School. While at Wood, the Vikings won PIAA State Championships in 2016 and 2017.

Lampart earned his undergraduate degree from Penn State University in 2005. He then received his Masters in Special Education from Mansfield University in 2012. Lampart is an International Sports Sciences Association certified personal trainer. In the off season, he is a coach for the Philadelphia Eagles Youth Football Academy and is also the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Blue Flame.

Lou Sepe - Wide Receivers Coach

Lou Sepe, a 2023 graduate of Alvernia, returns to the Golden Wolves as the wide receivers coach. Sepe was a four-year member of Alvernia's football team and earned MAC Academic Honor Roll honors.

Sepe returns to Alvernia after stops at Clarion University and Ohio Northern University. Sepe spent the 2023 season with Clarion University as the Defensive Line Coach. While at Clarion, he coached two defensive end all-conference honorees. After Clarion, Sepe went to Ohio Northern University and was the Polar Bear's tight ends coach. The Polar Bears went 8-2 in the 2025 season. Sepe also served as Ohio Northern's offensive coordinator for the JV team.

Sepe graduated in 2023 from Alvernia with a bachelor's degree in healthcare science and administration. 

Collin Edmonds Jr. - Academic Coordinator and Tight Ends Coach

Collin Edmonds Jr., a 2025 Alvernia graduate, joins Alvernia's football staff as the academic coordinator and tight ends coach. Edmonds Jr. was a part of the Alvernia football program as a student from 2021-2025. Following his first two years as a student-athlete, Edmonds Jr. transitioned into a player-coach role following an injury.

As a player-coach, Edmonds Jr. assisted with the coaching of the offensive line. He also spent time in Alvernia's Athletic Department as a broadcaster for Athletic Communications. He still continues as a broadcaster for Alvernia Athletics. In October of 2025, Edmonds Jr. was hired by Alvernia as a Navigator for Athletics, assisting student-athletes with academic advising and student-success.

Edmonds Jr. earned his undergraduate degree in sport management in May of 2025. He is currently pursuing his MBA with Alvernia.

Mike deMarteleire - Running Backs Coach

Mike deMarteleire joins Alvernia's football staff as the running backs coach. Prior to joining Alvernia's staff, deMarteleire spent the last four seasons as a high school assistant coach. 

deMarteleire most recently spent a season at Pope John Paul II High School as the varsity quarterback coach. Prior to that, he was the wide receiver coach for Reading High School in 2024, and the offensive coordinator for Norristown High School in 2022. 

After his college career at Kutztown University, deMarteleire got his start in coaching with Lansdale Catholic High School in 2003. In 2004, Lansdale Catholic won the 2A Pennsylvania State Championship.  After his time at Lansdale, deMarteleire made s stop at Cardinal O'Hara high school, where he coached two future NFL players in Tom Savage and Corey Brown.

deMarteleire played for three seasons at Kutztown University. He was the 2000 PSAC and ECAC Offensive Player of the Year, and the 1998 PSAC Rookie of the Year. 

Marc Clayton - Linebackers Coach

Marc Clayton joins Alvernia's staff as the linebackers coach. Clayton joins Alvernia's staff following a successful playing career at Ursinus College. Clayton was a four-year member of Ursinus as a linebacker, where he played for Devlin. 

Clayton was a 2024 All-Centennial First Team selection and a 2024 PhillySIDA Academic All-Area selection. Clayton finished his career with 180 tackles over 37 career games played. While he was with the Bears, Ursinus won two Centennial-MAC Bowl games and made the Division III NCAA tournament in 2024.

Clayton earned his bachelors of science in health with an education concentration from Ursinus in May of 2025. He is currently a physical education teacher at Norristown Area High School. 

Brian Dunlap - Defensive Back Coach

Brian Dunlap joins Alvernia as the defensive back coach. Dunlap comes to Alvernia following a season at Gettysburg College as the assistant defensive back coach in 2025. Dunlap has 17 years of coaching experience at the middle and high school level. Prior to joining Gettysburg, Dunlap served as the linebacker coach for York Institute of Technology. 

Dunlap is a graduate of Palmyra High School in New Jersey. He was named an All South Jersey Defensive All-Star Team selection. He attended Rowan University where he studied history. Dunlap is also strength and conditioning certified. 

Joe Bertz - Defensive Assistant Coach

Joe Bertz, a four-year member of Alvernia's football team, joins Alvernia's staff following a year as a student-coach. 

After completing his four-year playing career with Alvernia Football, Bertz returned for the 2025 season as a student-coach to assistant with the linebackers. Bertz worked closely with the inside linebackers, helping to guide McCabe Piavis to an All-MAC and All-ECAC selection in 2025. Bertz also assisted with the JV team as their special teams coordinator.
