Golden Wolves Split Commonwealth Doubleheader with Mustangs

Reading, Pa. (March 28, 2026) - Alvernia University (9-11, 4-2) dropped game one of a MAC Commonwealth softball doubleheader to Stevenson University (5-9, 2-4), but bounced back and took down the Mustangs in game two to split the doubleheader Saturday afternoon down in Angelica Park.

The Mustangs took game one by a score of 3-0 but the Golden Wolves responded and scored 12 runs in game two en route to a 12-4 victory over the Mustangs.

Game 1: Stevenson: 3, Alvernia: 0

How it Happened
  • Neither Alvernia or Stevenson could push any runs across in the first four innings of the game and the Mustangs had the best chances to score runs, especially in the top of the fourth inning. The Mustangs loaded the bases with zero outs in the fourth but were unable to get a run across after the Golden Wolves got an out at home on a groundball to first base to prevent a run and then center fielder Ava Rudolph cut down a run at the plate after the Mustangs attempted to tag up on a fly ball to center to keep the game tied at zero.
  • The Mustangs would get on the board in the top of the fifth inning after an RBI single to center scored a run and put them up, 1-0.
  • Stevenson then tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth after a two RBI single up the middle scored to Mustangs to extend the lead to three, 3-0.
  • The Mustangs then shut the Golden Wolves down in the final two at bats en route to the 3-0 victory in game one of the doubleheader.

How it Happened
  • The Mustangs picked up right where they left off in game two and plated four runs in the top of the second inning to take an early 4-0 lead.
  • The Golden Wolves responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning thanks to an Ava Rudolph sacrifice fly to left that scored Angelina Sponheimer and made it a 4-1 ballgame.
  • Alvernia's offense then kicked into gear and rattled off an eight run inning in the bottom of the third inning to swing the lead in their favor, 9-4. Lauren Jascewsky started things off with a two RBI double into the left center gap to pull within one and she then scored thanks to a Stevenson error to tie the game at four.
  • Sponheimer then drove in a run on an RBI groundout before Kalli Bunnell laced a two RBI single down the left field line to put the Golden Wolves up three, 7-4.
  • Jascewsky then came back up and worked a bases loaded walk and Taylor McClain capped the eight run inning with an RBI single through the right side to put the Golden Wolves up five, 9-4.
  • Alvernia tacked on two more runs in the fourth after Savannah Richards tallied an RBI groundout and Sponheimer scored via a wild pitch to make it an 11-4 ballgame.
  • The Golden Wolves closed the game out in the bottom of the sixth inning when Alexia Fitzgerald drove in a run with the bases loaded to secure the eight run, 12-4 victory and split the doubleheader.
