McManus Nets Winner, Golden Wolves Down Monarchs in OT Thriller, 16-15

Reading, Pa. (March 4, 2026) - Alvernia University (2-1) recorded a 16-15 overtime victory over King's College thanks to an Ethan McManus goal a minute and 46 seconds into the period Wednesday evening in a non-conference men's lacrosse clash on Alvernia's Turf Field.

The Golden Wolves and the Monarchs battled back and forth all game and traded blows back and forth throughout the fourth quarter but neither team could capitalize as the game headed to the overtime period locked at 15. The Golden Wolves won the overtime faceoff but turned the ball over shortly afterwards. Alvernia's Jack Natyshak then caused the Monarchs to turn the ball right back over, Zackary Moats picked up the ground ball, dished it to Jimmy Sparacio, who skipped it to McManus, who ripped the ball past the King's goalie and into the back of the net to secure the OT victory for the Golden Wolves.

The win comes as the first win on home soil for head coach Luke Franklin

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves got on the board first in the first two minutes of the contest when Jimmy Sparacio found the back of the net to put Alvernia up 1-0.
  • The Monarchs answered four minutes later with an EJ Schreiner goal to tie the game at one but the Golden Wolves responded with three goals in the next three minutes to take a 4-1 lead. Jack Natyshak assisted Joseph Mullen, Dominic Garcia assisted Ethan McManus and Charles Oberman netted an unassisted goal for Alvernia.
  • King's grabbed one back just over a minute later to make it 4-2, but Sparacio answered 41 seconds later to push it back to a three goal lead, 5-2.
  • The Monarchs answered Sparacio's goal 27 seconds later on a man up goal from Logan Gallagher to send it to the second quarter with Alvernia holding a two goal, 5-3 lead.
  • The Golden Wolves extended their lead in the first minute and a half of the quarter with goals from Zackary Moats and McManus to push it to a 7-3 Alvernia advantage.
  • King's responded once again with two goals in the next minute and a half to cut it back to a two goal, 7-5, Alvernia lead.
  • Alvernia's Sparacio and Oberman would score goals within 35 seconds of each other to make it a 9-5 Alvernia lead with four minutes to go in the half but then the Monarchs went on a scoring run. King's rattled off five straight goals over the next ten minutes of game time to swing the lead in their favor, 10-9.
  • King's netted two goals in the final three minutes of the first half to cut the Alvernia lead back to two, 9-7, at the half. The Monarchs then tallied three goals in the first five minutes of the third period to take their first lead of the game, 10-9.

  • The Golden Wolves tied the game with 2:24 to go in regulation after who else but Jimmy Sparacio netted his sixth goal of the game to send the game into overtime tied at 15 a piece.
  • After Jack Kenney won the opening faceoff of the overtime period, the Golden Wolves quickly turned the ball over but Alvernia's Jack Natyshak was not having it. Natyshak caused a turnover, Zackary Moats picked up the ground ball and found Sparacio. Sparacio then skipped the ball across the field to an open Ethan McManus on the left side of the goal, McManus shuffled toward goal and fired a laser past the King's goalie and into the back of the net to seal the 16-15 OT win for Alvernia.
