Golden Wolves Close Florida Trip With Victory Over Wilkes, 8-5

Fort Pierce, FL. (March 6, 2026) - Alvernia University's (4-2) Mike Pulcini drove in five runs to lead the Golden Wolves to an 8-5 victory over Wilkes University (3-4) Friday afternoon in a non-conference baseball matchup in Fort Pierce, Florida.

The Colonels struck first and held a 3-2 advantage over the Golden Wolves until Alvernia grabbed the 5-3 lead in the sixth inning after a three run frame. The Colonels answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at five but Alvernia tacked on three runs in the top of the eighth and shutout Wilkes in the final two frames to secure the victory.

How it Happened
  • The Colonels struck first in the bottom of the first inning after an RBI double off the bat of Devin Markert and an RBI single by Michael Sabella gave Wilkes the early 2-0 lead.
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed two runs back in the top of the third inning to tie the game at two. Mike Pulcini ripped a two out double to left that scored Joe Glass from first base and then Timmy Hitchcock laced a double into center to plate Pulcini to tie the game at two.
  • Wilkes responded in the bottom half of the inning after a one out groundout to second allowed a run to score and gave the Colonels the lead back, 3-2.
  • The Golden Wolves swung the lead in their favor in the sixth inning after back to back scoreless frames with a three spot to take a 5-3 lead. Jack Zabarsky and Logan Nelson both worked walks in the sixth inning before Christopher Babkowski worked a pinch hit walk to load the bases with two outs. Quincy Esannason then followed with a bases-loaded walk that drove in Zabarsky, tied the game and forced a Wilkes pitching change.
  • Alvernia's Pulcini then ripped his second double of the game, this one a two RBI double to center that plated Babkowski and Nelson to make it a 5-3 Alvernia lead.
  • The Colonels tied the game back up in the bottom of the seventh inning with two runs in the bottom half of the frame after a two RBI single to center pushed two runs across and made it a 5-5 ballgame.
  • The Golden Wolves responded immediately with a three run inning in the top of the eighth to swing the lead back in their favor, 8-5. Pulcini continued his impressive afternoon with his fourth and fifth RBIs of the day with a two RBI single to left field that scored Jake Chapman and Esannason to put the Golden Wolves back on top, 7-5.
  • Pulcini then came around to score on a Wilkes error to extend the Alvernia lead to three, 8-5, heading to the bottom of the eighth.
  • Wilkes had the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning and had a runner on in the bottom of the ninth but Alvernia's Nick Ferraioli worked out of both jams and secured the 8-5 victory for the Golden Wolves.
