Big Second Half Lifts Golden Wolves Past Rival Lions, 19-8

Reading, Pa. (April 1, 2026) - Alvernia University (7-3, 1-0) netted 12 goals in the second half en route to a 19-8 victory over Albright College (3-8, 0-2) Wednesday night in Alvernia's MAC Commonwealth men's lacrosse opener at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves held a four goal, 7-4 advantage over the Lions heading into the halftime break before Alvernia opened up the flood gates and outscored the Lions 12-5 in the second half en route to the 11 goal victory.

The 11 goal victory is the largest margin of victory for the Golden Wolves over the Lions in program history.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves came out of the gate flying and rattled off five goals in the first quarter to take a 5-0 lead into the second 15 minutes. Five different Golden Wolves scored goals to start the game as well with Jack Natyshak, Charles Oberman, Ethan McManus, Keegan Driscoll and Jimmy Sparacio all finding the back of the net in the first 15 minutes of play.
  • Albright answered back in the first two minutes of the second quarter with two quick goals to cut the Alvernia lead to three, 5-2.
  • Alvernia pushed the lead back to four, 6-2, after a Natyshak unassisted goal but the Lions hit back quickly with a goal less than a minute later to make it a 6-3 game.
  • Alvernia's Driscoll capped the seven goal first half for the Golden Wolves with a goal thanks to an Oberman assist in the final two minutes of the first half to give the Golden Wolves a four goal, 7-3 lead heading into the halftime break.
  • Albright came out of the halftime break and netted a goal in the first minute of the game to pull within three, 7-4.
  • That was as close as Albright got to tying the game. The Golden Wolves responded with five straight goals over the next four minutes of game time to take a commanding 12-4 lead with just under ten minutes to go in the half. Sparacio netted two goals during the stretch, Joseph Mullen and McManus added goals and Oberman tallied a man up goal to give the Golden Wolves an eight goal lead.
  • Albright netted two more goals in the final four minutes of the third period but Alvernia paced with one goal from Connor Stockton to send Alvernia into the final quarter of play with a seven goal, 13-6 lead.
  • The Lions came out of the quarter break and again scored the first goal of the fourth quarter but Alvernia answered quickly with five straight goals over the next five minutes to make it a double digit, 18-7, lead over the Lions.
  • Albright cut it back to ten, 18-8, with just under four minutes left in the game but Alvernia's McManus netted his fifth and final goal of the game to secure the 11 goal, 19-8 victory for the Golden Wolves.
