Golden Wolves Fly By Eagles, 13-7

St. David's, Pa. (April 15, 2026) - Alvernia University (3-11, 1-3) jumped out to a 10-2 lead and never looked back en route to a 13-7 win over Eastern University (4-9, 0-4) on Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth women's lacrosse action at Eastern.

With Alvernia leading by just one, 3-2, with five minutes to play in the first quarter, the Golden Wolves went on an 8-0 run to close out the first half and open the second half. Alvernia built its lead up to nine, 11-2, with the run. The Eagles outscored Alvernia 5-2 the rest of the way, but never threatened as Alvernia came away with the 13-7 win.

Cailyn Hawley recorded five caused turnovers in the win, and Kayleigh Kight notched one as both hit 100 caused turnovers on their careers.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia got on the board three minutes into the contest, with Grace Weissenberger finding Lindsay Kerchner for the 1-0 lead. Just 27 seconds later, Weissenberger scored one of her own to make it a 2-0 game through three and a half minutes of action.
  • The Eagles got on the board with 9:10 to play in the first quarter, but Alvernia answered back 16 seconds later to take a 3-1 lead as Gracie Brower found Mia Martin. After nearly four minutes of scoreless play, the Eagles got back within one, 3-2, on a free position goal.
  • A goal by Kerchner off the ensuing draw control ignited Alvernia's 8-0 run. Mia Martin scored off the assist of Haylee Roller just 27 seconds after Kerchner to give Alvernia the 5-2 lead. Hannah Tyler then scored Alvernia's final goal of the quarter off the assist of Kerchner to give Alvernia the 6-2 lead going into the second quarter.
  • Alvernia held the Eagles scoreless in the second frame, outscoring Eastern 4-0 in the second quarter. Tyler scored a pair of goals in the quarter, and Weissenberger and Makenna Thomas each added one as Alvernia took the 10-2 lead into the break.  
  • Alvernia capped off its 8-0 run just over five minutes into the third quarter as Kight connected with Kerchner to give Alvernia the 11-2 lead with 9:43 to play in the quarter.
  • The Eagles outscored Alvernia the rest of the way, but Eastern never got closer than within six. Martin and Thomas recorded Alvernia's final goals of the afternoon as the Golden Wolves took the 13-7 win.
