Alvernia Falls to Stevenson on Senior Day

Reading, Pa. (April 18, 2026) - Alvernia University (3-12, 1-4) fell to Stevenson University (9-6, 4-1), 16-4, on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's lacrosse action at Alvernia. 

Prior to the contest, Alvernia honored seniors Marissa Zocco, Haylee Roller, Kayleigh Kight, and Cailyn Hawley.

The Golden Wolves made five early stops against the Mustangs, but Alvernia struggled to clear the ball to take advantage of the stops. The Mustangs broke through just under seven minutes into the game on a goal in transition. Stevenson then made it a 2-0 game on a free-position goal with two minutes to play in the opening frame. Stevenson took the 2-0 lead into the second quarter.

Alvernia's defense continued to make stops against the Mustangs, but Stevenson broke again and took a 3-0 lead four minutes into the second quarter. A minute later, the Mustangs made it a 4-0 game. Alvernia got on the board with a Lindsay Kerchner goal off the assist of Ashley Mckeever with 7:23 to play in the half. Both teams went scoreless for over four minutes before Stevenson netted a pair of goals to take a 6-1 lead with 1:27 to play in the first half. A Makenna Thomas free position goal with 36 seconds to play in the half made it a four goal game, 6-2. But, the Mustangs scored a player-up goal with seven seconds to go in the half to take a 7-2 lead into the break. 

After five scoreless minutes to open the third quarter, Stevenson got back on the board to take an 8-2 lead. The Mustangs scored twice more over the next three minutes to take a 10-2 lead. Alvernai got back on the board with a player-down goal by Thomas with 5:45 to play in the quarter. But, the Mustangs scored two more to close out the third and take a 12-3 lead into the final frame.

The Mustangs outscored Alvernia 4-1 over the final 15 minutes, with Thomas netting her third of the afternoon to mark Alvernia's lone goal of the quarter. Stevenson scored its final goal with 36 seconds remaining to take the 16-4 win.

Makenna Thomas led Alvernia with three points off of three goals. Lindsay Kerchner finished with one goal, and Ashley Mckeever notched an assist. Kayleigh Kight finished with four drawAddison Bolz played 55 minutes in net and recorded 15 saves. Marissa Zocco recorded one save.

Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday at 6:00 PM hosting Widener for its home finale.
