Alvernia Falls to Widener

Reading, Pa. (April 22, 2026) - Alvernia University (3-13, 1-5) dropped a MAC Commonwealth women's lacrosse matchup to Widener University (10-6, 4-2), 17-7, Wednesday evening at Alvernia. 

Prior to the game, Alvernia Women's Lacrosse recognized Izabella Rivera, who is a member of Alvernia Women's Lacrosse through Team Impact. Team Impact partners children with severe illness and disabilities with collegiate sports teams and creates a lasting impact on both the kids and the student-athletes. 

The Pride jumped ahead early with a seven goal first quarter and then tacked on four more goals to take an 11-3 lead at the half. The Pride then added six more goals in the second half to secure the 17-7 victory. 

How it Happened
  • The Pride came out flying in the first quarter and rattled off seven straight goals to start the game and take the lead in the first 12 minutes of the game. 
  • Alvernia got on the board with just under two minutes in the quarter thanks to an unassisted goal from Hannah Tyler as the Pride took a 7-1 lead into the second quarter. 
  • Widener pushed the lead to eight, 9-1, after two goals to start the second quarter but the Golden Wolves bounced back with two goals over the next three minutes to make it a 9-3 game. Makenna Thomas netted an unassisted goal and Ashley Mckeever assisted Grace Weissenberger
  • The Pride added two more goals in the final four minutes of the half and took a 11-3 lead into the halftime break. 
  • The Golden Wolves tallied two of the three goals in the third quarter after Lindsay Kerchner netted a goal and Tyler added her second of the game but the Pride still held a 12-5 lead over the Golden Wolves. 
  • Widener then outscored the Golden Wolves five goals to two in the fourth quarter to secure the 17-7 victory.
