Golden Wolves Take Two From Devils

Carlisle, Pa. (April 16, 2026) - Alvernia University (15-17) picked up a doubleheader sweep over Dickinson College (10-18) on Thursday afternoon in non-conference softball action at Dickinson.

Alvernia's bats came alive in game one, taking the opener 12-3 on 14 hits and five errors by the Devils. The Golden Wolves then used a solid defense performance to take game two, 2-0.

Game One: Alvernia 12, Dickinson 3

How it Happened
  • Alexia Fitzgerald led off the game by reaching on a walk before stealing second. A Taylor McClain single to left field drove in Fitzgerald to give Alvernia the early 1-0 lead. The Devils responded in the home half of the first, driving in a run on a single to the right gap to even the game at 1-1.
  • The tie didn't last long as Alvernia scored two in the top of the second to take a 3-1 lead. Summer Montgomery and Kalli Bunnell led off the inning with back-to-back singles. They were then both driven in by a two-out single off the bat of Meryn Bellacima to give Alvernia the 3-1 lead.
  • The Devils got one back in the bottom of the third on a single to the left gap before Alvernia made it a two-run game again, 4-2, in the top of the fourth. Fitzgerald drew her second walk of the game and once again stole second. Fitzgerald was then able to score on a foul out to give Alvernia the 4-2 lead.
  • Alvernia kept it rolling from there. The Golden Wolves made it a three run game, 5-2, in the top of the fifth. Savannah Richards led off the inning with a double to left field, and Montgomery drove her in with a double of her own to make it a 5-2 game.
  • Alvernia broke things open in the sixth, scoring five runs off of three hits and two errors. McClain led off the inning with a walk and moved over to second on a Bellacima single. McClain then scored on an error off the at-bat of Eckman. Millhouse, pinch-running for Bellacima, then scored on a Richards single to left field. Alvernia kept it rolling on a Gianna Ordanoff single to right field to score Eckman. A Montgomery infield groundout scored Richards, and Alvernia capped off the inning with Bunnell reaching on an error to score Ordanoff and give Alvernia the 10-2 lead.
  • The Devils got one back in the sixth, but Alvernia posted two more runs in the seventh. Lauren Jascewsky reached on a single down the right field line and scored on an Angelina Sponheimer single up the middle. Sponheimer then scored on a Richards single to short stop to give Alvernia the 12-3 lead. The Golden Wolves did not allow a runner in the bottom of the seventh as they came away with the 12-3 win.
