Alvernia Drops Non-Conference Matchup to Delaware Valley, 10-9

Reading, Pa. (April 1, 2026) - Alvernia University's (10-13) ninth inning comeback fell short as the Golden Wolves dropped a non-conference baseball matchup to Delaware Valley University (9-14), 10-9, Wednesday evening in Angelica Park.

The Golden Wolves held a 6-1 advantage after five innings of baseball but the Aggies scored six runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-6 lead. Delaware Valley added two more runs in the seventh and one more in the ninth to make it a 10-7 advantage. Alvernia made a comeback attempt in the bottom of the ninth with two runs but it fell short as the Aggies secured the 10-9 victory.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia struck first in the top of the first inning after Harold Ivery III came up with the bases loaded and laced a ball to the center field wall but Delaware Valley's Kody Boyer tracked it down to make the catch. Jack Zabarsky scored easily on the sacrifice fly from third and Timmy Hitchcock made a heads up play and realized how deep the center fielder was and was able to score from second to put the Golden Wolves up 2-0.
  • The Golden Wolves tacked on another run in the second inning after Max Hansen ripped a double into the right center gap that scored Mike Pulcini and put Alvernia up 3-0.
  • Delaware Valley pulled one back in the third inning via a sacrifice fly to pull within two, 3-1.
  • Alvernia then extended its lead to five, 6-1, in the fifth inning and put up a three spot. Ivery III got things going with an RBI double down the right field line that scored Zabarsky before Bobby Hansen drove in a run with an RBI groundout made it 5-1. Will Woodring capped the inning with an RBI single up the middle that plated Ivery III and extended the Alvernia lead to five, 6-1, after five innings.
  • Delaware Valley then swung the lead in its favor in the top of the sixth inning with a six spot to take a 7-6 lead. The Aggies tallied two RBI singles to pull within three, 6-3, before a bases clearing, 3 RBI double down the left field line tied the game at six. The Aggies capped the six run frame with an RBI single up the middle to take the one run, 7-6, lead over the Golden Wolves.
  • The Aggies added to their lead in the seventh with a two RBI double into the right center gap to push its lead to three, 9-6.
  • The Golden Wolves responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning thanks to an RBI single off the bat of Bobby Hansen to pull within two, 9-7.
  • Delaware Valley pushed the lead back to three with a run in the ninth after an Alvernia error allowed a run to score and made it a 10-7 ballgame.
  • The Golden Wolves made a comeback bid in the bottom of the ninth after an Austin Schurman pinch hit RBI single plated Alex Bartlett Jr. pulled the Golden Wolves within two. Justin Dorety then followed with a pinch hit sacrifice fly to center that plated Joe Glass and made it a one run ballgame. Max Hansen then stepped up and looked to keep the rally going and absolutely laced a line drive right back at the pitcher but Delaware Valley's Andrew Cullinan made a great catch to end the game and secure the 10-9 victory for the Aggies.
