Reading, Pa. (April 24, 2026) - Alvernia University (17-20, 7-12) fell to Messiah University (26-10, 17-2), 9-5, Friday evening in game one of a MAC Commonwealth baseball series in Angelica Park. 

The Golden Wolves took an early 2-0 lead after runs in the first and second innings before the Falcons put up a run in the top of the third and two runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead. The Golden Wolves answered with a run in the home half of the sixth inning to tie the game at three but Messiah bounced back with four runs in the top of the seventh and two more in the ninth to secure the 9-5 victory over the Golden Wolves. 

How it Happened 

• The Golden Wolves struck first in the home half of the first inning after a leadoff single and a stolen base put Max Hansen on second base, Timmy Hitchcock stepped in and laced an RBI double over the right fielder's head to put Alvernia up 1-0. 
• Alvernia doubled its lead in the bottom of the second after Harold Ivery III hammered a ball over the right field wall and into the Messiah bullpen and made it a 2-0 ballgame. 
• The Falcons pulled one back in the top of the third with a leadoff home run over the left field wall off the bat of Matt Luchovick made it a 2-1 game. 
• Messiah grabbed the lead in the top of the fourth inning with a two-spot after RBI doubles off the bats of Carter Reid and Luchovick put the Falcons in the lead, 3-2. 
• The Golden Wolves tied the game back up in the bottom of the sixth after Logan Nelson drove in Ivery III with a groundball and made it a 3-3 ball game. 
• Messiah answered in the next half inning and took the lead with four runs in the top of the seventh inning with a three run homer to center and a sacrifice fly put the Falcons up 7-3. 
• Alvernia pulled one back in the bottom of the inning after Ivery III tallied an RBI groundout but Messiah still held a three run, 7-4 lead. 
• Messiah added two more runs onto the lead in the top of the ninth inning after another home run from Charistian Reyna and an RBI single pushed the lead to five, 9-4. 
• Alvernia grabbed one more back in the ninth inning when Ivery III singled through the right side and scored Hitchcock but it was not enough as the Falcons secured the 9-5 victory in game one of the Commonwealth series.

• The Golden Wolves head to Messiah to wrap up the final MAC Commonwealth series of the regular season on Sunday at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday April 25th, but was moved due to forecasted rain to Sunday.
