Alvernia Falls to Hood, 14-7

Frederick, Md. (April 8, 2026) - Hood College (5-5, 1-1) netted four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter en route to a 14-7 victory over Alvernia University (2-10, 0-2) Wednesday evening in a MAC Commonwealth women's lacrosse matchup on Hood's Thomas Athletic Field. 

The Blazers held a 7-3 lead at the half after a five goal second quarter but the Golden Wolves netted four goals in the third quarter to pull within three, 10-7. The Blazers then held Alvernia scoreless in the final 15 minutes of action and scored four goals en route to the victory. 

How it Happened
  • Alvernia jumped ahead early with a goal in the first five minutes of the contest after Grace Weissenberger netted an unassisted goal to open the scoring and give the Golden Wolves a 1-0 lead. 
  • The Golden Wolves then doubled their lead five minutes later when Weissenberger dished out an assist to Hannah Tyler to put Alvernia up 2-0. 
  • The Blazers then answered with two goals in the final three minutes of the first quarter to tie the game at two heading to the second quarter. 
  • Hood kept its scoring stretch going with three more goals in the first three minutes of the second quarter to grab its first lead of the game, 5-2. 
  • The Golden Wolves answered back with a goal just over a minute after Hood's fifth to make it a two goal, 5-3, game but the Blazers hit back with two goals in the final seven minutes of the half to take a 7-3 lead into the break. 
  • Alvernia pulled one back to start the second half after the combination of Tyler and Weissenberger connected again for another goal and cut the Hood lead to three, 7-4.  
  • The Blazers continued to answer back and tallied two goals in the next four minutes to push the lead back to five, 9-4. 
  • Alvernia and Hood then traded goals in the next five minutes thanks to an Alvernia goal from Mia Martin but the Blazers still held a five goal, 10-5, lead. 
  • The Golden Wolves pulled within three, 10-7, thanks to back to back unassisted goals from Weissenberger made it a three goal game heading to the fourth quarter. 
  • Hood then closed the game out with four goals in the fourth quarter and held the Golden Wolves scoreless to secure the 14-7 victory. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Grace Weissenberger posted a career high seven points and netted her first career hat trick while adding four assists.
  • Hannah Tyler also recorded a hat trick and also picked up four ground balls and caused one turnover. 
  • Mia Martin was the last Golden Wolves to score and netted a goal on her only shot. 
  • Makenna Thomas and Kayleigh Kight recorded four draw controls and Kight also caused four turnovers and picked up four ground balls.
  • Addison Bolz recorded eight saves in net for Alvernia.
