Golden Wolves Drop Season Opener to Dutchmen, 3-1

Annville, Pa. (September 1, 2026) - Alvernia University (0-1) dropped its season opener to Lebanon Valley College (1-0), 3-1, Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference men's soccer clash at LVC's Herbert Field.

The Golden Wolves struck first just under five minutes into the contest thanks to a Josh Ertel goal but the Dutchmen responded with the leveler ten minutes later to make it a 1-1 game. LVC then took the lead before the half after Dom Beddia found the back of the net to give the Dutchmen a one goal lead heading into the half. The Dutchmen extended their lead to two goals under two minutes into the second half to make it a 3-1 lead. The Golden Wolves would send seven shots at the LVC goal in the second half but with only two going on net, it was not enough as LVC secured the two goal victory.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia came out flying to start the first contest of the 2026 season and after two early corners and a shot on the LVC goal, sophomore Josh Ertel put the ball into the back of the net and gave the Golden Wolves an early lead. After the Dutchmen gave the ball away in the midfield, Alvernia's Luke Williamson slotted a through ball into the path of a streaking Ertel who collected the ball, fended off a defender and buried his shot into the bottom left corner of the goal to put the Golden Wolves on the board just five minutes into the contest.
  • Lebanon Valley tied the game up under ten minutes later when Gavin Rapp converted a rebound after a Will Burton shot was saved to tie the game at one a piece.
  • The Dutchmen then recorded six shots at the Alvernia net over the next 20 minutes before finding their second goal of the game and taking a 2-1 advantage after a header goal from Dom Beddia gave LVC a one goal lead heading into the half.
  • LVC carried the momentum into the second half and extended the lead to two, 3-1, just one minute and 13 seconds into the second half after yet another header, this one came off the head of Nathan Kimball to make it a two goal game.
  • The Golden Wolves tallied seven shots at the LVC goal in the second half and earned six corners but they were unable to find the back of the net as the Dutchmen secured the 3-1 victory over the Golden Wolves in the season opener.
