Reading, Pa. (September 9, 2026) - Alvernia University (3-1) had four different players score goals Wednesday night to power the Golden Wolves to a 4-1 victory over Wilkes University (3-0) in a non-conference field hockey clash. 

The Golden Wolves held a one goal lead heading into the final five minutes of the first half before Ava Michael and Caroline Martin both found the back of the net to push the Alvernia lead to 3-0 heading into the half. Wilkes pulled one back in the fourth quarter but the Golden Wolves tacked on one final insurance goal to secure the 4-1 victory. 

How it Happened 

• The Golden Wolves broke the scoreless tie early on in the first quarter when Caroline Martin assisted Hadley Lewicki just over eight minutes into the game to put the Golden Wolves on up, 1-0. 
• Alvernia went on to send four more shots at the goal but could not add to its lead as the Golden Wolves held a one goal lead heading into the second quarter. 
• The Golden Wolves then took over the second quarter offensively and ripped 11 shots at the Wilkes goal but it was not until the final five minutes of the half that Alvernia found the back of the net again. With just over four minutes to go in the third, Martin added her name to the scoresheet and flipped the ball into the back of the net after a scramble in front of goal to make it a 2-0 Alvernia lead. 
• Alvernia tacked on one more goal before the half, this one off the stick of Ava Michael. The Golden Wolves were awarded a penalty corner with under a minute to go in the half, Sofia Mollura inserted the corner to Michael, who collected it and fired an absolute rocket past the Wilkes defense and into the bottom left corner of the goal to give the Golden Wolves a three goal advantage heading into the halftime break. 
• The Colonels were the ones who came out of the halftime break buzzing and rattled five shots at the Alvernia net, four of which went on goal, but Alvernia's Jazmin Mayfield saved all four shots to preserve the three goal Alvernia lead heading into the final quarter of action. 
• Wilkes grabbed one back just under ten minutes into the fourth quarter when Maddie Karp put the ball into the back of the net after an assist from Emma Lautenbacher to make it 3-1. 
• The Golden Wolves responded in the final minute of action when Matisyn Derkacs fired the ball into the back of the Wilkes net to secure the 4-1 victory for the Golden Wolves. 

Inside the Box Score 

• Caroline Martin led the way offensively for the Golden Wolves with a goal and an assist and also fired all four of her shots on target. Martin's goal also proved to be the game winning goal, her first of the season. 
• Ava Michael netted a goal just before the half and fired six total shots at the Wilkes net and sent three on cage. 
• Matisyn Derkacs and Hadley Lewicki rounded out the Golden Wolves to find the back of the net. 
• Jazmin Mayfield tallied six saves in net and allowed just the one goal to earn the win in goal. 
• The Golden Wolves recorded 24 total shots tonight including 17 of them on goal. The Golden Wolves also tallied 15 penalty corners to Wilkes' seven including eight in the second quarter. 
• The win extends Alvernia's win streak against Wilkes to 16 games dating back to October of 2010.
