Golden Wolves and Lions Play to 2-2 Draw

Middletown, Pa. (September 9, 2026) - On Wednesday evening, the Alvernia University men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against Penn St. Harrisburg (0-2-1), moving to (2-1-1) on the season.
In an action-packed first half, the Golden Wolves capitalized on two opportunities with goals from Joseph Washington and Josh Ertel. Penn St. Harrisburg cut the deficit in the 26th minute, sending the match into halftime with Alvernia leading 2-1. The Lions flipped the script in the second half and were the aggressors throughout. They held the Golden Wolves to just two shots in the second half and tallied the equalizer in the 69th minute. Neither team would find the back of the net again, finishing the match with a draw.

How It Happened
  • The Golden Wolves went on the attack early with three shots within the first six minutes of play. Alvernia broke through when Chase Bartman found Joseph Washington in the fourth minute with a cross, giving the Golden Wolves an early 1-0 lead. Twenty minutes later, Jackson Taliani found Josh Ertel for the second goal of the game, extending the lead to 2-0.
  • Despite the early advantage, the Lions stuck to their game plan and found an opportunity two minutes later. Penn St. Harrisburg broke through on a deflected shot to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Lions had two late opportunities but couldn't get a foot on the ball, sending the teams into halftime with Alvernia still leading.
  • The second half started slowly with both defenses picking up their play. However, the Lions were able to maintain possession and accumulate multiple corners. The pressure finally paid off in the 69th minute when Penn St. Harrisburg found the back of the net to tie the match at 2-2.
  • The Golden Wolves could not generate much offense throughout the half as the Lions' defense tightened up. It wasn't until the final five minutes of the game that the Golden Wolves registered a shot. However, despite both squads having opportunities on goal, neither could put the game away, ending in a 2-2 draw.
