Owings Mills, Md. (September 15, 2026) - On Tuesday evening, the Alvernia University women's volleyball team (3-2) dropped its first conference matchup of the season, falling 3-1 to Stevenson University (4-2). The Golden Wolves struggled to overcome an early deficit in the first set, as the Mustangs took advantage of their lead to win 25-15. In the second set, despite a strong start from Alvernia, Stevenson's offense had an answer for the Golden Wolves' attack and took a 2-0 lead. With their backs against the wall, the Golden Wolves showed plenty of fight in the third set. A balanced attack from Wolf, Treude, Jones, and Velez propelled Alvernia to a 25-23 win. Stevenson came charging out in the fourth set, building an early lead and never looking back to secure the 3-1 victory with a 25-13 fourth-set win.

The Golden Wolves found themselves trailing early as the Mustangs came storming out with a pair of service aces to take an 8-2 lead. Caroline Buggy and a Mustang error gave Alvernia the two points early. The Golden Wolves continued to battle, getting points from Melina Stinsky, Olivia Rohrbaugh, and Zoe Velez, but Stevenson maintained its advantage with a 15-7 lead.

Despite Alvernia taking advantage of some Mustang errors, Stevenson continued to capitalize at the net and held a 20-10 lead. Olivia Jones and Casey Truede added points late, but the Mustangs closed out the set, 25-15.

The second set got off to a better start for the Golden Wolves, with points from Rohrbaugh and Velez helping Alvernia keep the score tied at 5-5. However, a 5-2 run by the Mustangs propelled Stevenson to a 10-7 lead. Stevenson continued to apply pressure with strong offense and service aces to take a 15-11 advantage.

Despite several lengthy rallies, the Mustangs continued to come out on top and extended their lead to 19-11 late in the second set. Stevenson went on to take the set, 25-13.

Alvernia came out strong in the third set, jumping out to a 9-5 advantage behind points from Treude, Allison Wolf, and Velez. However, a 5-2 run by the Mustangs cut the deficit to 11-10. Behind service aces from Olivia VonNeida and a big block from Julia Lassandro, the Golden Wolves created some breathing room and took a 15-10 lead.

Stevenson refused to go away, using a 6-2 run to pull within one at 17-16. Alvernia stayed composed and regained some breathing room, leading 22-17. The Mustangs then stormed back late, tying the set at 23-23. Back-to-back Stevenson errors gave the Golden Wolves the final two points and a 25-23 win, forcing a fourth set.

Stevenson came out of the third-set loss with a sense of urgency, jumping out to an 8-2 lead and forcing an early Alvernia timeout. The Mustangs continued to apply pressure and extended their advantage to 14-5.

Lassandro, Treude, and Wolf recorded points as the Golden Wolves looked to shift the momentum, but Alvernia was unable to slow Stevenson's attack and trailed 17-10. Stevenson went on to win the fourth set, 25-13.
