Reading, Pa. (September 19) - On Saturday evening, the Alvernia University women's soccer team drew Cairn University 1-1 in its third home game of the season. Mia Ralston netted the lone goal for the Golden Wolves in the 13th minute of the game. However, Cairn found the back of the net for the equalizer in the 29th minute.

How It Happened

• The Golden Wolves showed an offensive surge early, putting the Highlanders on their heels to open the contest. Alvernia registered two corners and three shots within the first 11 minutes of the match. Two minutes later, that offensive attack paid off when Mia Ralston connected with the ball and placed it just past the goalie to give the Golden Wolves a 1-0 lead. However, despite trailing early, the Highlanders stuck to their game plan and capitalized on an opportunity in the 29th minute. Highlander Joey Smith got behind Alvernia's back line and put one through to tie the match at 1-1. Taylor Flaherty and Kylie Hein registered shots late in the first half, but neither could find the back of the net, sending the teams into halftime all square at 1-1.

• Alvernia came out firing in the second half, putting together a solid attack and picking up three corners and five shots in the opening minutes, but could not capitalize on those opportunities to take the lead. The Golden Wolves' defense was strong, allowing just one Highlander shot in the second half. However, despite five more shots and two shots on goal from Flaherty and Abby Stair, the game would end in a 1-1 draw.
