Reading, Pa. (September 8, 2026) — Alvernia Women's Volleyball (2-1) took down Penn State Schuylkill (1-3) in a tightly contested four-set match on Tuesday night at Jack McCloskey Court.
The Golden Wolves took the opening set 25-21 and separated themselves in set two off a dominant serving performance from Melina Stinsky, who sparked a 10-0 run to extend what was once an 8-5 lead to 18-5. Set three saw the Golden Wolves drop a set to the Lions, and then the Golden Wolves roared back in the final set with a score of 25-15, besting the Lions 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lions started off the first set on a 5-1 run that was quickly erased by the Golden Wolves, who fired back with a run of their own to even things up at eight apiece. Play would stay stalemated until the Golden Wolves ripped off a 9-6 run with things tied 16-16, courtesy of two kills from Zoe Velez and three kills from Allison Wolf.

The second set was all Golden Wolves, who fought for an 8-5 lead to put the ball in the hands of Melina Stinsky, who fired four service aces in the midst of an exciting 10-0 run to push their lead to 13. Three of Stinsky's four aces came consecutively in points 12-14.

Eyeing what would've been a second consecutive sweep, both teams changed sides, and in turn, so did the tide for the Lions, who took set three 25-21.

Set four was all Golden Wolves, who, after opening the frame knotted at 4-4, ripped off a 15-6 run, putting themselves just six points away from the win. Casey Treude, Zoe Velez, Allison Wolf, and Julia Lassandro all were credited with kills amidst the run.

The final six points were a battle for the Golden Wolves, who relied once again on Melina Stinsky to deliver another service ace and a final kill from Zoe Velez to give the Golden Wolves the victory.

Melina Stinsky delivered nine aces in the match, putting her just one back from the team record that is held by Sue Schwartz, who set the record back in 1999.

Allison Wolf, Casey Treude, and Zoe Velez all hit double-digits in kills recorded, with 14, 10, and 10, respectively.

Marli Emrich led the way for the Golden Wolves in the assist column with 19.
