Michael Spidale joined the Alvernia University coaching staff prior to the 2014 season after 14 seasons playing in the minor-league systems of the Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies.

Spidale was drafted out of Nazareth Academy (La Grange Park, Ill.) by the Chicago White Sox in the 12th round of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft.  He played a mix of infield and outfield positions in the White Sox minor league system batting .270 over six seasons with 75 doubles, 14 triples, nine homeruns, 173 RBIs, and 150 stolen bases.

Spidale started his career with a 21-game season in the Arizona rookie league.  Following that he had at least 100 hits a season in each of the next five seasons.  He had 148 base hits for AA Birmingham in 2004 batting .306 with 27 doubles, seven triples, seven homeruns, and 47 RBIs.  He stole 30 or more bases in a season twice in the Chicago system.  He advanced as high as AAA Charlotte where he batted .230 in 45 games.

He was released by the White Sox organization following the 2005 season and signed on with the Kansas City T-Bones of the Independent Northern League.  After batting .346 over 13 games he was signed as a minor league free agent by the Phillies in June 2006 and sent to Lakewood (A).

In seven seasons in the Phillies’ system Spidale batted .303 with 108 doubles, 27 triples, 23 homeruns, and 255 RBIs.  He stole 148 bases in 194 attempts.  He batted .390 through the first 13 games of the 2012 season in Reading and was called up to Lehigh Valley where he batted .268 over the final 75 games of the season.
