Bret Krotee has been a part of Alvernia University’s coaching staff since the 2007 season. Krotee serves as the Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the Men’s Soccer program and oversees goalkeeper training throughout the season. The Golden Wolves are two-time ECAC Champions.
While at Alvernia, Krotee has helped continue the tradition of quality goalkeeping. Richard Kessler, a three-time All-Conference goalkeeper played for the FC Reading Revolution in the NPSL after graduating in 2008. Benjamin Diller, a 2012 Alum, broke two school records at the time, compiling 21 career shutouts and earning the lowest goals against average. Diller was also named to the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team and All-Commonwealth First Team. Zachary Rider, a 2018 Alum, was the 2016 MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year and named to the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Third Team and All-Commonwealth Team all four years. Zachary currently holds the all-time saves and shutout school records.
Krotee has also guided five PAC and seventy-seven MAC academic honor roll recipients, including two MAC Soccer Scholar Athletes and three NSCAA Men’s College Soccer All-East Region winners. The Men’s Soccer Team has also won the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award. Krotee has recruited and coached a NSCAA First Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region, a NSCAA Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region, three NSCAA Third Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region, seven First Team All-Commonwealth, thirteen Second Team All-Commonwealth, three First Team All-PAC, two Second Team All-PAC, two First Team All-Freedom, and two Second Team All-Freedom players at Alvernia. This list includes the 2007 PAC Rookie of the Year - Morgan Davidheiser, 2011 MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year - Eric Franks, and aforementioned 2016 MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year Zachary Rider.
During the summer of 2010, Krotee was named the goalkeeper trainer for the Philadelphia Union PDL affiliate Reading United AC. Reading United AC was the 2010 Eastern Conference Champions and advanced to the PDL National Final Four. With the United, he trained Syracuse University alumnus and Lowe’s Senior Class Award Nominee Jeremy Vuolo, who most recently played goalkeeper for the San Antonio Scorpions in the NASL after a stint with the New York Red Bulls in the MLS and AC Oulu in Finland’s premier division, the Veikkausliiga. Former University of North Carolina goalkeeper and 2011 NCAA Champion Scott Goodwin, Creighton University alumnus and former Philadelphia Union member goalkeeper Brian Holt, current Toronto FC goalkeeper Alex Bono, former LaSalle University goalkeeper, Philadelphia Union member, and current Tampa Bay Rowdie John McCarthy, former Penn State University goalkeeper Emmanuel Martin, former University of Delaware goalkeeper Kris Devaux, and former George Mason University goalkeeper Steffen Kraus have also trained under the direction of Krotee with the United.
Prior to joining the Golden Wolves, Krotee was the first assistant at Elmhurst College. During his stint at Elmhurst, he coached the 2007 CCIW Player of the Year, goalkeeper Britt Blackwell. He also helped recruit and coach an NSCAA First Team All-Central-Region, two NSCAA Second Team All-Central-Region, three NSCAA Third Team All-Central-Region, six First Team All-CCIW, and nine Second Team All-CCIW players. Additionally, Krotee was the Assistant Director of the Soccer Academy at Elmhurst College and a goalkeeper instructor for the Illinois Olympic Development Program in 2005 and 2006.
Krotee graduated after a successful playing career from Duquesne University where he led his team to back-to-back A-10 Championships in 2003 and 2004. He finished his career with a .933 goals against average. He was also named to both the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Director of Athletics Honor Roll. At Wilson High School, Krotee was a 1999 District III Champion, had 15 shutouts as a senior, and graduated with a .780 goals against average.
He holds NSCAA State and Regional goalkeeper diplomas and passed the course for his National Diploma with distinction. Krotee has also previously served as a counselor at Big Kick Soccer Camps and goalkeeper trainer at the Star Soccer Academy.
Krotee also currently serves as the Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions, Athletics Liaison, and Coordinator of the Veterans Center at Alvernia University. He is an Alvernia Alumnus, graduating with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. Krotee, his wife Amelia, and newborn daughter Cora live in Denver, Pa.
