Ray Edwards

Coach Ray Edwards

Coach Edwards will be in his eighth season with the Lady Crusaders in 2011-12. In his first year at Alvernia, he helped the team win a PAC Championship and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. He has extensive basketball coaching experience on his resume from his days as Head Boys’ Coach at Tamaqua High School and Head Girls’ Coach at Conrad Weiser High School. Coach Calabria and Coach Edwards became friends through their common mentor, Bob Fulton. Coach Edwards learned the game of basketball from Coach Fulton at Tamaqua High School whom he credits with giving him the many insights that he now passes on nightly to the Alvernia players in practice. Ray and his wife Janis live in Wernersville. They have a son Ray, Jr.

Coach Calabria on Ray Edwards:
" Ray has incredible knowledge of the game and is a real student of the game.  A lot of the success we have had with our presses and defenses are a direct result of Coach Edwards.  Coach Calabria said "Coach Edwards loves the game and our players. He provides a level headed approach to teaching all aspects of basketball. He has provided a lot of input into what we do on the floor since his arrival on campus. We work well together."
