Tom O'Connell

Coach O’Connell will handle the head coaching responsibilities of the newly adopted women’s NCAA Division III golf program. The inaugural season will mark a new direction in women’s athletics at Alvernia University and the inception of women’s golf in the Commonwealth Conference in which they will compete. O’Connell currently serves as he men’s assistant golf coach which he’s held since 2005. 

A graduate of Alvernia College in 1995, O’Connell also played as a member of the varsity golf team. O’Connell was awarded the distinguishing honor of team MVP in the 1995 season out of the #1 position. He was recognized with the All-Academic PAC award for the winter/spring semester in 1995.

O’Connell a 1986 Graduate from Downingtown High School played his entire High School career on the varsity golf team. A member of two Ches-Mont Championship teams in both the 1983 and 1985 seasons. Awarded Second Team All Ches-Mont in 1985, O’Connell played #1 for the team his senior year.

O’Connell worked for nearly a decade at several prestigious golf clubs serving as Caddie Master at Pablo Creek Golf Club in Jacksonville Beach, Florida and more recently Stonewall Golf Club in Bulltown, Pennsylvania. Additionally Coach O’Connell caddied on the LPGA tour for tour pro Deb Richard in 1998.

Coach O’Connell also assumes the head coaching role for the men’s ACHA Division III Ice Hockey program at Alvernia University. O’Connell has guided the ice hockey program since the sports inception at the college during the 2002-2003 season.
