BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (November 28, 2007) - The Alvernia College Women's Basketball team saw their record fall to 1-3 on the young season after a 74-58 loss this evening to Richard Stockton College at the Physical Education Center. Despite jumping out to an early three-point lead, Alvernia found themselves down by 13 at the half and down by 20 five minutes into the second half.
The Crusaders were led by freshman forward Tracee Harrison (Willow Street, PA/Solanco) who netted 12 points and grabbed four rebounds. Harrison was the only Crusader in double digits with fellow freshman Alexandra Velazquez (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) the next highest putting up seven points.
The first half was a back-and-forth effort with no team leading by more than five points until the Ospreys from Stockton began to pull away. Richard Stockton went on a 11-0 run to end the first half kicked off by two successful free throws from junior Kelly Guarrera (Shamong, NJ/Shawnee) after she was fouled by
Allee Barnes (Blooming Glen, PA/Pennridge). The Ospreys quickly connected on three layups to put them up by ten points, and three successful free throws would increase their lead to 13 at half-time. Alvernia didn't help their cause by committing five turnovers in the final four minutes of the half.
The second half would prove to be more of the same as the Crusaders saw Richard Stockton increase their lead to 21 less than five minutes into the second half. Harrison netted a lay-up to close the gap, and freshman
Kelli McIntyre (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) quickly added a three-pointer to bring Alvernia within 16. The Crusaders could get no closer than within 15 points for the remainder of the game. The Ospreys had three players in double digits including junior forward Guarrera who netted a game-high 16 points. Stockton freshman Kristin Sciarrillo pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. The Ospreys tallied 36 rebounds to Alvernia's 28 and committed 25 turnovers to Alvernia's 31.
