St. Davids, Pa. (Dec. 1, 2007) – Alvernia College went to the free throw line 39 times, one short of a school record, and hit 27 freebies in a 77-50 win over Eastern University Saturday afternoon in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Women's Basketball opener for both teams.

Jill Rosolie (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) and freshman
Alex Velazquez (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) led the Crusaders (2-3, 1-0 PAC) with 14 points apiece and freshman Tracee Harrison (Willow Street, Pa./Solanco) also reached double figures with 13. Eastern got a team-high 12 points from both Mandy Kuiken (Pompton Plains, N.J./Eastern Christian) and Shanell Timothy (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic).
Eastern took 21 trips to the free throw stripe in a game that featured 47 personal fouls, hitting 13. Alvernia shot just 37 percent from the floor and 20 percent from behind the arc, but won the game forcing the Eagles (0-5, 0-1 PAC) into 31 turnovers and outrebounding an opponent for the first time this season, 48-41.
Alvernia broke open the game early with a 25-6 to close the first half and held a 40-21 lead at the break. Velazquez led the way on the stretch with eight of her 14 during the run.
Alvernia will travel to Immaculata on Monday for a women's and men's doubleheader with the Mighty Macs.
