Alvernia Keeps Home Playoff Hopes Alive

Four Different Crusaders Score In 4-0 Win

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 30, 2008) - Alvernia University Men's Soccer (8-8-1, 5-2) secured its spot in the Freedom Conference Championships with a 4-0 win over Delaware Valley College (3-14-1, 1-7) Thursday afternoon at Sovereign Bank Sports Park and could sew up a home game with a win or tie against Manhattanville on Saturday.

Four different players scored for the Crusaders on Thursday as the hosts tallied three goals in the first half and closed the scoring in the final minute of play.

Freshman Eric Franks (Reading, Pa./Exeter) opened the scoring in the fifth minute of play and Ryan Rutherford (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) made it 2-0 in the 12th minute.  Junior Adam Lush (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) scored his sixth goal of the game and ran his goal-scoring streak to four games with a tally in the 22nd minute.

The score remained 3-0 until Chris Lasher (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) scored his first goal of the season in the final minute of play.

Alvernai senior Richard Kessler (Reading, Pa./Reading) made two saves in the first half and Drew Gilbert (Reading, Pa./Antietam) made one second half save to preserve the shutout.
