Joanna Graber Leads All Scorers With 19 Points

Allentown, Pa. (Feb. 14, 2008) - Sophomore guard Joanna Graber (Manalapan, NJ/Notre Dame)scored 19 points, including five from three-point range to lead all scorers as Alvernia defeated Cedar Crest 83-46 this evening in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women's basketball action at Lees Gymnasium.  With the win Alvernia improves to 12-12 overall and 11-4 in the PAC.

The Crusaders opened the game with a flurry of scoring and quickly went up 17-0 aided by eight points in the opening seven minutes from senior Jill Rosolie (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco).  Cedar Crest finally broke the goose-egg when Leann Wallower hit two free throw shots eight minutes into the game.  Alvernia continued to overwhelm the Falcons in the first half including eight straight points from Graber.  The first half concluded with the Crusaders shooting 60% from the floor, 7-for-9 from three point range and leading by 32 points. 

The second half saw the Falcons put up five quick points including at three-pointer from Sarah Campbell before the Crusaders went on an 11-point run to put the game all but out of reach for the Falcons from Cedar Crest.  Junior forward Allee Barnes (Blooming Glen, PA/Penn Ridge) started the run with lay-ups on two consecutive possessions.  Freshman Alexandra Velazquez (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) followed with another two lay-ups and Michelle Lutzkanin (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) polished off the 11 unanswered points with three-pointer.  Alvernia's solid shooting continued as they went 45% from the floor through the second half.  

Alvernia had four players in double digits with Rosolie putting up 11, Velazquez and August Reichardt (Kenhorst, PA/Governor Mifflin) putting up 10 apiece.  The loss sees Cedar Crest fall to 1-13 in the PAC and 6-17 overall)

The Crusaders will be back in action Mon. Feb. 18th at home against Marywood as part of a women's and men's doubleheader that will begin at 6:00 pm.
