Snyder Scores 22 To Lead Crusaders

BOX SCORE

Dallas, Pa. (Jan. 31, 2009) - Sophomore reserve Lil Snyder (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) scored a career-high 22 points, but Misericordia University (9-9, 5-5) rattled off 8-0 runs near the beginning of both halves in a 69-52 win over Alvernia University (11-7, 7-4) Saturday afternoon in Freedom Conference women's basketball action at The Anderson Center.

Misericordia started the game with an 8-0 lead after the first three minutes with Snyder hitting her first of four 3s to get the Crusaders on the board.  Eight minutes later the Crusaders finally erased the lead when Kelli McIntyre (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) hit a free throw to knot the score at 18-all.

Alvernia led 27-25 later in the half, but Misericorida closed the first half with 14 of the last 16 points to take a 10-point lead at the break, 39-29.  Snyder hit two free throws with 36 seconds left in the half to pull within seven, but the Cougars got their last of three first-half 3s on the last possession for the 10-point lead.

The second half started with an Alex Velazquez (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) bucket, but Misericordia followed that with eight straight points and held the lead over 10 the rest of the way.

Snyder was the only player to reach double figures in scoring for Alvernia while the Cougars put three players in double digits led by 19 from Lacey DeGraw.

Alvernia will return to action at home on Wednesday when the Crusaders host a women's and men's doubleheader against Eastern University.
