Reading, Pa. (Jan. 7, 2009) - Freshman center Allison Toczylowski (Mantua, N.J./Clearview Regional) scored five of her career-high 19 points during an early first-half run that propelled Alvernia University (5-5, 2-2) to a 70-52 win over Misericordia University (3-5, 1-2) Wednesday evening in Freedom Conference women's basketball action at the Physical Education Center.

Alvernia trailed 10-5 with just better than five minutes gone before freshman reserve Anna Wengert (Annville, Pa./Lebanon Catholic) scored on a jumper converting one of Julie Hahn's (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) career-high five assists.  Sophomore Kelli McIntyre (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) hit her first 3 of the night to knot the score at 10-all, and seven minutes later Alvernia's run was 22-4 staking the hosts to a 13-point lead.

Toczylowski scored twice in the paint on the run and added a free throw and sophomore Lil Snyder (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) added five straight at one point to fuel the run.

Misericordia trimmed the gap to 10 a minute later, but got no closer the rest of the way.

Alvernia pushed the lead to 17 points, 36-19 on a Hahn layup and took a 15-point lead, 36-21 into the halftime break. The Crusaders more than doubled the Cougars on points in the paint in the first half, 18-8, and Alvernia held an 11-0 advantage in points off turnovers.

McIntyre scored five straight points to end an 11-4 run for the Crusaders to open the second half, and the lead grew as high as 24 points, 59-35 following a Snyder 3.

McIntyre finished with 19 points to join Toczylowski for game-high honors, and the Cougars put three players in double figures led by Lacey DeGraw (Tyler Hill, Pa./Honesdale) who tallied 14.  Alvernia shot a blistering 51 percent from the floor with Toczylowski going 8-for-12 and backup center Kayla Long (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Central) hitting on 3-of-3 shots.

Alvernia will travel to DeSales University Saturday for a doubleheader with the Bulldogs at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
