Reading, Pa. (Feb. 12, 2009) - Sophomore guard
Kelli McIntyre (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) scored a 17 of her game-high 19 points in the first half leading Alvernia University (15-7) to a 61-48 win over Ursinus College (5-17) in non-conference women's basketball action Thursday evening at the Physical Education Center.
The Crusaders opened the second half with a 17-3 run to build their lead to 20 points and rolled to the victory. Ursinus went stone cold from the floor after halftime scoring just once on a layup and getting one free throw over the first 12-plus minutes of the half.
After three ties and four lead changes in the early going Alvernia opened up an 11-point lead, 21-10 with an 11-0 run fueled by nine points from McIntyre including a pair of 3s. Sophomore
Alex Velazquez (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), who finished two points shy of her fourth straight double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds, scored the other two points of the run.
The first half lead grew as high as 14 points, 27-13 following an Allison Toczylowski (Mantua, N.J./Clearview Regional) layup, but the Bears cut it to six at the break.
The second half lead grew to as much as 21 points on two occasions for the hosts.
Toczylowski finished two points shy of matching her career high with 17 and
Joanna Graber (Manalapan, N.J./Notre Dame) added 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Ursinus was paced by
Kristi George (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) who scored 11.
Alvernia returns to the conference schedule on Saturday at Wilkes University. Gametime is 1:00 p.m.
