BOX SCORE
Annville, Pa. (Jan. 9, 2010) - Lebanon Valley College (11-1, 3-0) used a 16-3 run midway through the first half to open up a 15-point lead en route to a 79-64 win over Alvernia University (6-3, 2-1) Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action at LVC.
Alvernia turned the ball over four times during the first-half run and committed 15 turnovers in the first half as LVC ran out to a 44-27 lead at the break.
"We gave it away too many times in the first half," said head coach
Kevin Calabria. "That probably led to at least eight layups."
The Dutchmen shot 53 percent in the opening half going 18-for-34 and just had to manage the lead in the second half to remain undefeated in the league. Alvernia was within 13 points with 12 minutes left in the game, but got no closer.
"Give them credit," said Calabria, "they were better than us today."
Calabria got a team-high 17 points from junior guard
Kelli McIntyre (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain), but she needed 16 shots to get there.
Alex Velazquez (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) scored 11 points with 12 rebounds,
Angela Altemose (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) scored 11, and
Julie Hahn (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) added 10.
LVC put a pair of players in double figures led by
Suzie Noyes who scored 25.
Alvernia returns home for a women's and men's doubleheader with Arcadia University next Wednesday.
