WILLIAM PENN BOX SCORE
ST. JOHN FISHER BOX SCORE

Tucson, AZ (March 3, 2010) - Freshman Deanna Dungee (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) earned her first collegiate win this afternoon as she held 2009 Empire 8 Conference Champion St. John Fisher to just one run through seven full innings for the 3-1 win.  In Alvernia's first game of the day the Crusaders fell to William Penn 8-0.

In Alvernia's win over St. John Fisher the Crusaders got on the board in the top of the first inning thanks to a one-out double from Janelle Lynch (Macungie, Pa./Brandywine) and a two-out RBI double from catcher Samantha Geisinger (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin).  The Cardinals from St. John Fisher would battle back to tie the game in the bottom of the second after a walk and two singles.  The game would remain tied until the top of the fifth when Alvernia would connect for two runs.  Junior shortstop Dina Chiappelli (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) stepped up with a two-out two RBI single to score Rhiannon Sorrentino (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) and Lynch.  The two fifth-inning runs would hold up as Dungee shut down the Cardinal offense over the last three innings.

Alvernia's first game of the day lasted just five innings due to the eight-run rule.  The Statesmen from William Penn held the Crusader offense to just two baserunners thanks to a walk and a double from Sorrentino.  William Penn started the first inning with three straight hits and put up two runs.  They added two more in the fourth and four in the fifth.  Alvernia's defense committed four errors, leaving pitcher Michelle Jensen (Holland, NJ/Delaware Valley) with six unearned runs.

The Crusaders will return to action tomorrow with a game against Neumann at 11am followed by their last game of the tournament at 1pm versus St. John Fisher.
