Reading, Pa. (Jan. 3, 2011) - Neumann University (6-5) wrapped a 28-4 run around the halftime break turning a 10-point deficit into a 14-point lead en route to a 63-58 win over Alvernia University (4-5) Monday evening in non-conference women's basketball action at the Physical Education Center.

The host Crusaders took a 30-20 lead with 5:14 left in the first half, but saw Neumann score 16 of the last 20 points in the first half to take a two-point lead at the break then come out with the first 12 points of the second half to push the lead to 14 points, 48-34.

Alvernia senior Angela Altemose (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) scored a game-high 15 points and added a team-best 12 rebounds.  Neumann senior Katie Young recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.  Neumann earned a 52-41 advantage on the boards including 20 offensive rebounds which led to 22 second-chance points.

After falling behind by 14 points early in the second half Alvernia cut the gap to two points twice in the final two minutes and had one opportunity to tie the game, but couldn't complete the comeback.

Alvernia jumped out early and established its largest lead at 16-6 then again at 30-20 before the Neumann comeback.

Neumann picks up its third win in the series in the last five games after Alvernia won the first 18 between the former Pennsylvania Athletic Conference rivals.  The Crusaders continue the non-conference games against former PAC opponents with a Wednesday trip to Cabrini College.
