BOX SCORE

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. (Mar. 2, 2011) - Juniors Allie Toczylowski (Mantua, N.J./Clearview Regional) and Angela Altemose (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) each posted monster double-doubles and #6 Alvernia University (14-13) pounded the glass in a 58-45 win over #3 Gwynedd-Mercy College (17-11) Wednesday evening in ECAC South Region Quarterfinal action at the Griffin Complex.

Both post players finished with a game-high 16 points apiece for the Crusaders.  Altemose pulled down 17 rebounds while Toczylowski had 16 and the Crusaders had a whopping 53-26 advantage on the glass.  Their 19 offensive rebounds led to 21 second-chance points while the Griffins had just eight.

For the second straight game the Crusaders went with height from the jump starting 6-1 center Kayla Long (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Central) along with Altemose (6-0) and Toczylowski (6-0).  Long scored the first bucket of the game assisted by Altemose and the Crusaders never trailed.

Alvernia's lead grew to a dozen, 14-2 just four minutes into the game with Julie Hahn's (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) 3 being the only points on the run not from the big three.  Altemose even threw in a 3 of her own for good measure.

GMC promptly cut the gap to four points and later to three in the first half before back-to-back 3s from Alisa Greco (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) and a free throw from Altemose pushed it back to 10.

Alvernia enjoyed a lead of half that, 28-23 at the break.

The second half started with three straight buckets from Toczylowski--all following offensive rebounds.

This time the lead shrunk down to five points with six minutes to play before Hahn bookended a 10-2 run with a pair of 3s.

Altemose finished with a team-best eight assists.  Hahn hit four 3s on the night and finished with 12 points.  Greco posted nine points and seven assists.

Alvernia advances to the ECAC semifinal and will play #2 Catholic University at top-seeded Waynesburg on Saturday at 6:00.  Waynesburg will play PSU-Behrend in the other semifinal with the two finalists to meet Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Waynesburg.
