Waynesburg, Pa. (Mar. 5, 2011) - Sixth-seeded Alvernia University (14-14) shot just 23 percent while #2 Catholic University (19-9) managed 35 percent in a 64-52 win Saturday evening in semifinal action of the ECAC South Region Women's Basketball Championships at Waynesburg College.
Catholic and #1 Waynesburg will square off in the championship game on Sunday afternoon.
Alvernia hit just nine field goals, but managed 10 free throws in the first half leading at one point by as many as 10 points and settling for a 29-28 lead at halftime.
Catholic took its first lead of the night on the opening bucket of the second half then holding a 43-40 lead later in the half put together a 13-2 run to surge ahead by 14 points with six minutes to go.
Alvernia cut it to nine points on a 3 from junior center
Angela Altemose (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM), but got no closer.

Allie Toczylowski (Mantua, N.J./Clearview Regional) had a terrific night on the glass pulling down a career-high 20 rebounds--four shy of the school record held by Tanisha Giddens (1998-02). Toczylowski finished with a team-high 13 points,
Julie Hahn (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) scored a dozen, and Altemose finished with 11.
Catholic got a game-high 21 points from Jill Woerner.
