Doylestown, Pa. (Apr. 14, 2011) - The Crusaders (15-5) connected for 23 hits and 22 runs in a sweep of the Aggies (9-15) this afternoon in non-conference action at Delaware Valley College.  Deanna Dungee (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and Danielle Kitchen (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) combined in the circle for the five-inning shut-out in a 10-0 game one win, and Michelle Jensen (Holland, NJ/Delaware Valley) earned the 12-4 win in game two.

The Crusaders got right to work in the top of the first inning of game one, taking the prompt 2-0 lead.  Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) led-off the inning with a single, and after a ground out Amanda Galanti (Red Bank, NJ/Marine Acad. Sci./Tech) and Kitchen connected for RBI-singles.  Alvernia added four more in the second inning thanks to a two-RBI single from Galanti and RBI double from Kitchen.

After a scoreless third and fourth inning the Crusaders tagged on another four runs in the top of the fifth inning with RBI singles from Alicia Buchman (Alburtis, Pa./Emmaus), Peto and two RBIs from Samantha Penk (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South).  In the circle, Dungee held the Aggies to just two hits through four innings and Kitchen shut them down in the fifth for the 10-0, five-inning win.

Game two saw the Aggies come out swinging and put up three runs in the first two innings with three doubles, two walks and two singles, while Del.-Val. pitcher Greer McComas held Alvernia to just two hits and no runs through four innings.  

The fifth inning was a different story as Alvernia sent 12 batters to the plate, had six hits and scored eight runs.  Rhiannon Sorrentino (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) led-off the inning with a double and scored on a hit from Diane Lightner (Gaithersburg, Md./Acad. Holy Cross).  Katie Manowski (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) followed with a single, while Peto was next up with a two-RBI double.  Kitchen added an RBI-single, and pinch-hitter Meg McCafferty (Millville, NJ/Millville) plated another run on a ground-out to the right fielder.  A double from Lightner, her second hit and RBI of the inning brought across the eighth run of the fifth inning.

The Crusaders added two more in the sixth and another two in the seventh for the comfortable 12-4 cushion and starter Jensen settled down allowing just one hit through the third, fourth and fifth innings.  Jennifer Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton East) came in to close things out in the sixth and seventh innings. 
 
Peto was 5-for-9 with four RBIs and three runs, Kitchen was 4-for-7 with five RBIs and Penk added a 4-for-8 performance with two RBIs and two runs.

Alvernia returns to action when they host Widener University in Commonwealth Conference play Sat. Apr. 16th for a 1:00pm doubleheader.
