Alvernia Scores Comeback Goal In 1-1 Tie

BOX SCORE BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2011) - Kyle Mellon (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) netted the equalizer as Alvernia (3-1-1) settled for a 1-1 tie with visiting Rosemont College (3-1-1) this evening in non-conference action at Schlager Memorial Field.

The Ravens from Rosemont struck first with a goal from Luke McIlvaine in the 24th minute.  After some fancy footwork from his teammatesto bring the ball up the field, McIlvaine connected for his second goal of the season as he found a deflection of a defender.  The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Ravens through the remainder of the first half with both Alvernia and Rosemont managing four shots each.

The Crusaders tied the game in the 52nd minute as Mellon found a beauty of a cross from Eric Franks (Reading, Pa./Exeter) and placed it lower right for his first career goal.  Some nice saves from both goalkeepers preserved the 1-1 tie through regulation.

The first overtime saw Rosemont tally one shot-which hit the crossbar, while Alvernia was held shotless.  In the second overtime Rosemont posted three shots to Alvernia's two.

Crusader goalkeeper Ben Diller (Etters, Pa./Red Land) had five saves, most in spectacular fashion as he held the Ravens to just one goal all night.

Alvernia returns to action when they host Berkeley College on Sun. Sept. 18th at 2:00pm.
