Allentown, Pa. (Sept. 20, 2011) - Alvernia University (1-0) opened the 2011-12 season with an impressive 8-1 win over Cedar Crest College in non-conference women's tennis action Tuesday at Cedar Crest.

The Crusaders earned three relatively easy victories in doubles play winning 8-3 at No. 1, 8-1 at No. 2, and a clean sweep 8-0 win at No. 3.  The Falcons earned their only point of the match with a straight set win at No. 1 singles.  Alvernia won the other five singles matches in straight sets.  Three of those sets by 6-0, 6-0 finals.

Jenn Petrilla (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton East), Jennifer Innamorato (Matawan, N.J./Wold Bridge West/East), and Kellie O'Donnell (Oreland, Pa.) all won in straight sets without losing a game.  O'Donnell and Maygan Henzie (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) teamed for the clean sweep at No. 3 doubles.

Alvernia continues the non-conference schedule hosting Philadelphia University on Friday.
