Reading, Pa. (Sept. 21, 2012) - Alvernia Women's Tennis defeated PSU-Berks (1-1) by a score of 7-2 this afternoon in their season-opening match.  Alvernia (1-0) took five out of the six singles matches, and two out of the three doubles matches.  In their singles wins, Alvernia held the Lions to three points or less in all matches, while Julie Seidel (Wernersville, Pa./Wilson) defeated her opponent in #1 singles 6-0, 6-0.

After Seidel it was Kayla Morgan (Mohrsville, Pa./Hamburg) taking the #2 singles match-up 8-5, while Jennifer Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton East) defeated her #3 singles opponent 6-2 and 6-1.  The Crusaders also took wins at #4 and #6 singles.

In the doubles matches, Seidel and Petrilla teamed up for an impressive 8-1 win at #1 doubles, while Morgan and Alyssa Boyd (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) took #2 doubles 8-2.

Alvernia is back in action on Sept. 25th when they travel to Rosemont College for a make-up match beginning at 4:00pm.
