BOX SCORE
Annville, Pa. (Oct. 13, 2013) - Junior
Alex Martyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest) assisted on Alvernia's first goal, and netted the game-winner as Alvernia (4-7-2, 1-1-1) defeated host Lebanon Valley College (6-5-2, 0-3) Sunday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference action.
The Crusaders opened the scoring with a goal from
T.J. Leiter (Tower City, Pa./Williams Valley) in the second minute of the game, assisted by Martyn who passed it up the left side of the field to Leiter. The Dutchmen tied the game at one in the 20th minute, and the game remained knotted at one through the remainder of the first half.
As the second half opened, in the 46th minute, Martyn found open space down the left side of the field, shooting an initial shot off the hands of LVC senior goalkeeper James Clements. Â Off the rebound,
Josh Wollaston's (Middletown, De./Caravel Academy) shot ricocheted off the crossbar until, finally, Martyn was able to find the back of the net to give the Crusaders the 2-1 lead.
The Crusaders dominated the second half shot-wise, out shooting the Dutchmen 13-5, but it was LVC who earned five corner kicks to Alvernia's none.
Alvernia is back in action on Wed. Oct. 16th when they travel to #3 Messiah College for a Commonwealth Conference game beginning at 7:00pm.
