Crusaders Win On Last-Second Shot At Neumann

Ebersole Leads The Way With 18

Aston, Pa. (Nov. 19, 2013) - Sophomore Chelsea Ebersole (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) hit her sixth 3 of the night with four seconds left to give Alvernia University (3-0) a 56-53 win over Neumann University (1-2) Tuesday evening in non-conference women's basketball action at The Mirenda Center.

Prior to Ebersole's 3, the last time the Crusaders held a lead was at 10-9 with 12 minutes still left in the opening half.  Neumann had a 21-14 lead with 4:50 to go in the first before Alvernia closed the half on an 8-2 run to pull within a point at the break, 23-22.  Ebersole hit her first 3 of the night--on her seventh attempt--midway through the run.

Neumann scored the first seven points of the second half and nine of the first 11 for its largest lead of the game, 32-24.  It held the lead until Alvernia freshman Tyra Roberts (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) tied the score at 53-all with 22 seconds to play.

Neumann missed a potential go-ahead jumper with 10 seconds to play and Ebersole knocked down the game-winner with four seconds to go.  Neumann called a timeout, but couldn't get off a shot before the horn.

Ebersole finished the game with 18 points--all on 3s.  Roberts also reached double figures with 14 points.  Neumann relied heavily on its starting five with the bench only totaling 16 minutes.  Four of the five starters reached double figures led by 13 from JoHanna Metzger.

Alvernia opens the home schedule on Saturday when it hosts Penn State-Berks at 1:00 p.m.
