Crusaders Wrap Up Second Place In Gold Bracket At Moravian

Bethlehem, Pa. (Aug. 31, 2013) - Alvernia University (2-2) used an incredible comeback in the fifth and deciding set against Wilkes University (1-3) to split a pair of matches on Saturday at Moravian College and finish second in the Gold Bracket on day two of the Greyhound Premiere Women's Volleyball Classic.

Marywood University defeated Alvernia 3-1 in the first match of the day and won the Gold Bracket.  York College defeated Swarthmore and host Moravian to take the Championship bracket.

Alvernia splitting the first four sets of the match against Wilkes, the Crusaders round themselves down 12-7 and just three points away from a loss before rallying for a 15-13 win.  Kristen Rupp (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) had a team-high 15 kills without an error and Brittany Lantz (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) added 10 kills.  Jamie Morris (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) totaled 26 assists.

Liz Newman (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) led the way with 11 kills against Marywood and was named to the All-Tournament Team.  Rupp totaled 16 digs and was one of three players in double figures in digs for the Crusaders.  Krissy Silio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) dished out 10 assists.

Alvernia opens the conference schedule Wednesday at Lebanon Valley College.
