(Jan. 29, 2014) - Alvernia University (6-12, 2-9) built an 8-point lead midway through the first half, but Lycoming College (8-9, 5-6) ran off a 12-3 run to take the lead and finished the half with 25 of the final 32 points for a 10-point lead at the break en route to a 68-55 win Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action at Lamade Gymnasium.
The Crusaders got a pair of 3s from sophomore shooter
Chelsea Ebersole (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) in the early going and junior
Kaitlyn Yoh (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) knocked down a pair of free throws at the 10:10 mark to put the guests up 24-16.
Lycoming cut the deficit in half with back-to-back layups from Julia Antonelli and Ebersole answered with her third 3 of the night, but it was the Crusaders' only points in in a 4-plus minute stretch as the Warriors came back to take the lead 28-27.
Taylor Eckley (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) briefly put Alvernia back on top, but Lycoming came back with 13 straight for a 41-29 lead. Nicole Calella scored five for the hosts during the run.
Alvernia went down as many as 14 points early in the second half, but a 3-point play from Alisa Grecco (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) and a 3 from Ebersole help the Crusaders score seven straight to cut the lead in half.
Lycoming was able to answer that run with nine straight points and held the lead above double digits the rest of the way.
Tyra Roberts (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) led the way for the Crusaders with 13 and Ebersole scored 12. Lycoming put four players in double figures led by a game-high 21 from Antonelli.
Alvernia returns home to take on Stevenson on Saturday.
