BOX SCORE San Juan, P.R. (Dec. 20, 2013) - Alvernia University (4-4) went 0-for-9 from the 3-point arc and hit 7-of-22 shots in the second half of a 49-44 loss to Mary Washington (7-2) Friday evening in non-conference women's basketball action.
The Eagles hit just 4-of-28 shots in the second half (14 percent), but did hit 10-of-12 free throws to stay out in front including 4-for-4 in the final minute after a jumper from Alvernia freshman
Taylor Eckley (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) pulled the Crusaders within a point.
Alvernia shot 43 percent from the floor in the first half including 4-for-8 from the 3-point line, but trailed by three at the break, 29-26 after the Eagles grabbed 11 offensive rebounds leading to six second-chance points.
Junior guard
Kaitlyn Yoh (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) led the way in scoring for the Crusaders with 16 points.Â
Chelsea Ebersole (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) scored 13 and
Tyra Roberts (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) added a dozen. Mary Washington had one player reach double figures. Sam Partonen scored 10.
Alvernia will face St. Mary's on Sunday to wrap up a five-day, two-game trip to Puerto Rico.
